Public Meeting and AGM, Thursday, 23rd November, Marcham School, 7.30pm
Marcham Community Group is preparing to take on the management of MarchamCentre, the new
community facilities, on behalf of the community, with the support of the Parish Council and the many
community groups in Marcham. MCG is determined that its activities will be fair, open and transparent to
our community. It is important therefore that local people have a real opportunity to see how this project is
moving ahead and to have a say in the make-up of the board of trustees, who will have the prime
responsibility for running MarchamCentre under the terms of the formal lease being negotiated.
We are holding a public meeting and AGM at Marcham School at 7:30 pm on Thursday 23rd November -
please put this date in your diary now! We strongly encourage you to support this and we will welcome your
participation in the meeting.
We will share details of the current progress with the project, plans and new arrangements for opera??ng the
facilities at the public meeting, and you will have ample opportuni??es to ask ??ues??ons about the new
arrangements and plans and to elect the new trustees.
To ensure that MCG is in the best possible shape for its new role, we are proposing some formal
amendments to the articles of MCG, which have been designed to fit the new arrangements. We are sending
details of these to current MCG members in advance of the meeting. We will put these formal amendments
and how we will run membership arrangements to a vote of a brief Annual General Meeting, which we will
hold during the public meeting.
MCG members will be able to vote on the proposals to amend the MCG articles and in the trustee elections.
Given the importance of MarchamCentre to the community, we strongly encourage you to join MCG or
renew your membership now (you will be able to do so before the start of the meeting) so that you can
participate in the votes and play a part in keeping MCG on a firm and democratic footing. This is your best
opportunity to shape the way that MarchamCentre is set up and run in the future.
In preparation for this, we have been seeking individual nominations and proposals from user groups in
Marcham for potential trustees, who will be prepared to stand for election at the AGM. Some people have
already come forward. We will also need people to help with practical input on the commitiees running the
community building and the playing field activities, as well as help seeking grant funding, finances and
governance. There is still time to offer your help. We will be keen to welcome volunteers but, if necessary,
we may need to be more persuasive!
If you have been collecting 5ps, or if you have any old round pound 1 coins to donate, please bring them to the meeting.
This project has taken an extraordinary time to come to this point. We look forward to it becoming reality.
Come and have your say on the 23rd - it really matters??
